                                               July 2015
Hello,

Happy Canada Day!
Need Healthcare? The Federal store is closed!

Canada is facing an important next step in our medicare history. In 2014, the current health care accord – the deal that sets funding and health care service delivery agreements between the federal and provincial and territorial governments – expired. The federal government continues to ignore calls by the provinces and territories to work on a deal, and shockingly announced $36 billion worth of health care cuts which will come into effect after the next federal election in 2015.

The Council of Canadians, Canada’s largest citizens’ organization, with members and chapters across the country, believes public health care needs to be protected, strengthened and expanded.  Everyone – provincial and territorial governments, First Nations and the federal government – should come together to negotiate a health care accord that delivers better, more efficient, quality public health care. The accord should include a national pharmacare program and better home care and long term care for our aging population.

Talk to your local MP and make your voice heard. Happy Canada Day!

8 ESSENTIALS OF SELF CARE
I was surprised to learn that there is actually a day devoted to looking after ourselves…INTERNATIONAL SELF CARE DAY is July 24th. AMAZING!

Sadly this is a sign of the times!  Everything is fast paced, people are too busy and the most important thing we own – OUR BODY – often gets neglected!  We take for granted what the human body is capable of and its only when we suffer with a health condition that we take notice, but we need to honour ourselves and not just on one day but EVERY DAY!

To me, “self care” means:Learn More

Spotlight on Technology

Intelechip:
The Evolution of Medicine Dispensing to Patients with Accessibility Challenges.

Most people take it for granted that they can visually access and mentally remember to dispense their medication in a timely manner.

For the visually challenged, sufferers of dementia and alzheimer, seniors and other people with disabilities, medicine dispensing can a very challenging process.

The Intelechip integrates patient specific data into the original medicine packaging at pharmacy dispensing system for audio playback by the patient with accessibility issues.

Pharmaceutical Innovation Ltd. developed the Intelechip to level the playing field. A solution to pharmacies struggling to comply with Accessibility Laws in the US and Canada.

The Intelechip is getting support from Canada’s and Ontario’s own MaRS Discovery District; and thumbs up from the CNIB, SunnyBrook Research Centre and others.

In Our Community

Residents were invited to celebrate and share the Pan Am spirit! Oakville’s community spirit shone bright when the Pan Am flame arrived in Centennial Square on Tuesday, June 23 as part of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay. The torch proceeded to Burloak harbour with a complete foltilla in tow. CharterAbility‘s boat team lead the relay with media and photographers on board. Thanks to Stephen Cull, iCare Home Health logo is proudly featured among the sponsors on the CharterAbility boat.
